Asia is once again the economic engine of the world. With a vast population, growing middle classes, massive urbanization, technological advancements, and productivity growth, Asia will continue to be the fastest-growing region globally, and investors should not miss out on the potential this region has to offer.
According to the data from the IMF, in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) 2023, Asia now accounts for over 54% of the world's GDP, while North America and Europe account for approximately 33%. Aside from developed economies like Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, the economic acceleration of countries like China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia present favourable investment opportunities for long-term investors.
The strengthening economic alliances of the BRICS and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) will further boost economic interactions and prosperity among nations in the Global South. For investors, exposure to Asian equities adds diversification to the investment portfolio and counterbalances to the U.S. and Canadian equities.
